BTEC Level 3 Business Studies. Unit 4: Managing an Event

Business events - conferences, exhibitions, product launches, trade shows, shareholder's meetings, press conferences, awards evenings

Conferences - A large event that brings together people who work in the same industry to discuss developments in that industry

Exhibitions - A display of works or products

Product launch events - often large scale events whose organizers invite journalists, bloggers and social media influencers to witness the very first unveiling of a company's product

Trade shows - Events attended by buyers who choose to be exposed to products and services offered by potential suppliers in an industry

Shareholders' meetings - A meeting of the shareholders of a corporation that must be held by the corporation to elect directors and to vote on other matters press

Conferences - an interview given to journalists by a prominent person in order to make an announcement or answer questions.

Awards evenings - Events in a company or industry where recognition is given to businesses and individuals who have performed well in specific areas

Team building events - Activities aimed at getting people to work together to improve relationships. Often used as school trips or away days for employees

Seminars - A meeting of a small group of people in an industry to discuss a particular subject

Sport and recreation events - The Olympic Games, The Paralympic Games, national sports tournaments, sports matches, motor sports events, racing, equestrian events, country fairs, food festivals, fun runs, sailing regattas, animal shows and collector's fairs

Sport competitions - Events aimed at bringing a crowd together to watch people play sports, e.g. the olympic games

Food festivals - Events aimed at bringing crowds of people to sample food from restaurants and food producers

Fun runs - Events aimed at bringing groups of people together to run with spectators to watch. Money is often raised through sponsorship and donated to charity

Sailing regattas - A series of boat races

Animal shows - Exhibitions which demonstrate different breeds of animals

Collectors' fairs - Events bringing together people who collect similar items so they can view each others collections and add to their own entertainment events - Events with the aim of people enjoying themselves

Celebrations - events that honor a person or a special date

Social enterprise events - Charity sports events and charity fund raising events such as galas, dinners and auctions

Mind maps - Graphic organisers where a central idea is developed through connections to associated ideas which are laid out around it

Purpose of event - The reason for an event happening

Event aims and objectives - The key targets of what the event is to achieve

Event constraints - Limitations to an event occurring or that may limit the choices that can be made

Budget - The money available to spend on the event Venue constraints - The limitations to the event caused by the venue such as the rules of the organisation that owns the venue

Human constraints - The limitations on event planning as a result of availability and abilities of staff

Physical constraints - The limitations on event planning as a result of the equipment and space available

Event success factors - The metrics used to measure how successful an event has been such as money raised or memberships created
