A team - a group of people who collaborate on a common goal

A group - a collection of people who work together to make things happen

Formal teams - Official and designated to serve a specific purpose such as the marketing team

Informal teams - group of individuals who get together outside of the formal organisational structure to accomplish a goal

Small teams - 2-9 members with better interaction and morale

Large teams - 10 + members which may require some division of labour and more difficult interaction

Temporary teams - Teams that exist for a finite period such as the length of a project

Permanent teams - groups that are formed and expected to remain in place for the long term, such as a department in a business

Remote/virtual teams - Groups of people who work together on projects but are not physically in the same location. They may communicate using online communication tools

Horizontal teams - Teams composed of employees from about the same hierarchical level but from several different departments in the business

Vertical teams - Composed of a manager and his or her subordinates in the formal chain of command, in one functional department

Team purpose - The reasons for the team and what it exists to achieve

Characteristics of a team - The traits possessed and demonstrated by a team

Sense of purpose - The recognition of the shared goals of the team

Team goals - The outcomes desired for the team as a whole

Team roles - The tasks allocated to individual members of a team

Lines of authority - The plan of who is responsible to whom and for what

Team conflict - A real or perceived difference in interests between two or more team members

Personal traits - an individual's unique combination of qualities and characteristics

Group norms - the beliefs or behaviors that a group of people accepts as normal

Interpersonal relationships - The way in which people interact with each other

Contribution - The efforts of individuals in their team goals

Alienation - feeling isolated and separated from everyone else

Expertise - Specialist knowledge and skills

Identification of talent - The awareness of the knowledge and skills of individual members in a team

Motivation - a feeling of enthusiasm, interest, or commitment that makes somebody want to contribute more to the team goals

Innovation - An improvement of an existing technological product, system, or method of doing something.
